When should I call Black Diamond Moving?

If you need to move today, we can usually make it happen. For an in-home written estimate, seven to fourteen days of notice is ideal. In general: the more notice you can give us, the better the estimate, the calmer the move, and the more likely you are to get your preferred date.

How long does an in-home estimate take?

Usually no more than an hour. A senior estimator walks the home, takes inventory, asks about access and timing, and answers any questions. You get the written proposal back shortly after the visit.

Can you reach my home if it's gated or up a narrow road?

Usually, yes. We own 17- and 26-foot shuttle trucks and transfer at our Jackson Hole facility, so we can reach homes the big rig can't -- narrow mountain roads, gated developments, and HOAs with seasonal access limits are routine for us in the valley.

What are my responsibilities as a client?

Four things, really:

— Be present during packing and the load.
— Take personal responsibility for jewelry, documents, and high-value items.

— Review and sign the inventory of your belongings.

— Make sure nothing prohibited is in the shipment.

What can and can't I bring?

We won't carry items that could leak, combust, corrode, spoil, or otherwise pose a hazard. That includes gasoline, propane, paint, oil, fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, cleaning chemicals, ammunition, perishable foods, liquids including non-collectible alcohol, cooking oils, bleach, detergent, vinegar, and illegal substances. We are prohibited from handling, packing, or transporting firearms. We can only handle, pack, or transport plants if permitted by law (state-specific).

How is my shipment covered?

Every move carries basic protection at the federal standard, which isn't insurance and pays by weight, not value. For belongings worth more than that, we offer full valuation coverage as a purchasable upgrade -- protecting your things at their actual value. Ask your senior estimator about options and pricing.

What about my car?

In most cases, we can transport vehicles in the trailer or container along with the rest of the shipment. If that's not possible -- load configuration, weight, or the timing -- we'll arrange an alternative through an auto-transport partner.

We don't transport vehicles as part of a standard local move.

What if I pack myself?

You can. The one thing to know: basic protection is carried on every move as standard, and full valuation coverage is available for purchase if you'd like belongings protected at actual value. Talk to a senior estimator before move day if you want to discuss options and pricing.

How long does packing take?

Every home is different -- the variables are square footage, density, and how much specialty crating is involved. Most homes can be packed in one to two days with a properly sized crew.

Can I leave clothes in dresser drawers?

Yes. Just make sure there's nothing solid left in the drawer that could damage the piece -- books, jewelry boxes, hardware. Clothing on its own is fine and stays where it is.
